an outstanding guide to reiki

"The Complete Book of traditional Reiki" is true to the history of Reiki, and bridges to the challenges of our modern time. Amy Rowland notes, "what Reiki does provide is a direct, profound experience of the healing power of Spirit-guided life-force energy." This book is about healing oneself, others, and hopefully collectively the world. Lofty ideals. But its style is easy to read, and it makes what are often complex and mystical concepts simple and approachable. Amy Rowland is consistently respectful to historical Reiki, not by deification as sometimes mistakenly occurs, but by as accurately and intellectualy honestly placing founder Mikao Usui, and Sensei Hawayo Takata, in context of the personal struggles they faced. This honesty makes Reiki more human, more accessible, and more relevant to us. We are imperfect people in an imperfect world, often needing method to face a day with compassion rather than anger, and hope rather than with despair. As a Hospice physician, I appreciate that Amy Rowland's book is healing not only in its approach to human suffering, but in its approach to respecting and bridging conventional and complementary healthcare. It is healing as well, in its inclusiveness and respect of all lineages of Reiki. Whether a beginner wanting to know something about Reiki, or for a practitioner experienced in Reiki, the author's approach brings elegance and clarity to Reiki.

Excellent and Best Reiki Text

I read this book a couple of times, and it is extremely easy to read and it is also very understandable. I already have the book and will now get the kindle edition so I can refer to it when I am not home. Not only is it good for students, but it is also great for Reiki masters to know how to explain the ideas in a very clear manner to their students. I keep going back to this book and I think it is the best reiki book out there.

About the Author

Robert Foster is a program manager in the College of Engineering at the Southwest Region Solar Experiment Station and the Institute for Energy and the Environment at New Mexico State University. He is currently on assignment in Kabul as the deputy chief of party for the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Afghanistan Water, Agriculture, and Technology Transfer Program.

Majid Ghassemi is a visiting research scientist in the Institute for Engineering Research and Applications at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NM Tech), where he is currently conducting research on energy-efficient wall panels for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Alma Cota is a chemistry professor and solar researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. She previously worked as a photovoltaic research assistant in the Southwest Region Solar Experiment Station at New Mexico State University.

Very informative, highly suggested for med school application

I'm 28 and taking the MCAT for the first time. I'm applying in June 2010 so I can enter med school in the 2011 calendar year. The MSAR book is very reasonably priced and includes answers to so many different question you probably have on your mind:

What's the application process?
What classes do I need?
What MCAT scores does a school require?
When should I apply?
What's the school like?
Etc...

My suggestion is to buy this book at least a few months before you plan on applying to med school. There's so much information in the book it'll take some time to review and figure out what schools you want to apply to. I've gone through and been able to figure out, based on my GPA and scores, what schools I'm most likely going to get accepted from. For example, if I wanted to apply to a school that's out of my state of residence, then I looked up how many non-residents were accepted to that school. One school I saw accepted 290 students total, but only 5 from out of state. There's no point in me applying there and wasting my application fee if there's no chance of me getting in.

Overall, I think this book is great and I'm glad I purchasd it. It's only about $25 and highly recommended (should be required, in my point of view).

BIBLE of a premed student!

I am an undergraduate student doing premedical studies and this is absolutely the BEST resource I have ever seen. If you're a premed student this book will be the Bible of your preparation and is a must have!
If you are a premed student and are browsing through other books about preparing for med school do not waste your time or money on ANY of them. This book has everything you need to know and more, all in one place. It is organized and easy to read and navigate directly to what you want to know.
It not only has a profile of each med school but info on the application process, mcat, financial aid, joint degrees and much more. It will answer questions you didn't even think of. No matter what stage you are at whether applying to med school or considering a career in medicine this book will help you. I've only had it for a few days and I've learned so much. Definitely worth the money.

The only book you should purchase when applying for med school

This book is great because there's a section in the beginning about the medical school application process and all that stuff. It also goes through every accredited medical school in the US and Canada alphabetically. It is published by the AAMC there is no bias content. They report the facts. The tell a little about the school and they give you lots of stats so you can honestly assess where you have a good chance of getting into. They also don't rank school so it's nice to read through the book and be able to decide which schools you like and want to know more about without having school rankings skewing your judgement. Highly recommended. Great book! Great price too!

Interesting content but included DVD wouldn't play

Interesting book, and I'm glad I read it. The reason for the 3 star review is because the DVD it came with would not play. I tried it on two different DVD players. One just popped it out without any type of message. The other said "Playback prohibited by area limitations." Tried multiple times, and couldn't get beyond that message. It would have been nice to watch the video to help the text sink in more.
