Service Dogs: Information Every Handler should know book

I am new to the world of service dogs. I have MS and am currently training my own service dogs for mobility assistance as I have developed balance issues. I think everyone that utilizes a service dog should have this book. It is very important to know your rights and the laws as they apply to your service dog. The book is broken out in easy to read sections and you can find the information you need quickly and easily. I read it from cover to cover and I found information I hadn't known I needed. Again, I highly recommend this book!

This book is about the business of rendering for fashion. Its purpose is to turn a difficult job into an easy one once you know the basics. Great for starters

Bina Abling's Fashion Rendering with Color is a great source of information and consultation for starters on fashion design, and drawing in general. I've just started fashion design lessons, and I do not have many resources regarding this specific subject in my country, so I turned to Amazon.com to find the best, and I did. I've presented a collection of 30 dolls, using some of the styles on this wonderfull book, and I'm doing great, so I recommend this book to anyone who is starting, or just wants to know how to render with markers, and other materials.

Childish illustrations

I bought this book because it had such good reviews, but I was very disappointed with the contents. The title is fashion rendering with color, but most of the illustrations are black and white (very misleading). Plus the illustrations don't look very professional in my opinion. If you have no drawing skills but want to become a fashion designer, then this is the right book for you. Otherwise, don't buy it.

Disappointed with the amount of B&W content, but information is still useful!

I have found Bina Abling's books to the most useful of all the different fashion sketching books out there. This book was a supplemental to my Fashion Sketching class, and it has invaluable information on techniques for rendering multitudes of fabric, designs details, etc. in full color.

As noted in other reviews, there was also a lot of black and white images for a book focused on 'rendering in color.' But I have found that a lot of the illustration work I'm now doing will be printed in B&W, so having Abling's examples of how to create color and texture variance in a limited color palette has really helped my art.

To answer this question, anthropologist Summerson Carr traces the charged interactions between counselors, clients, and case managers at "Fresh Beginnings," an addiction treatment program for homeless women in the midwestern United States. She shows that shelter, food, and even the custody of children hang in the balance of everyday therapeutic exchanges, such as clinical assessments, individual therapy sessions, and self-help meetings. Acutely aware of the high stakes of self-representation, experienced clients analyze and learn to effectively perform prescribed ways of speaking, a mimetic practice they call "flipping the script."

As a clinical ethnography, Scripting Addiction examines how decades of clinical theorizing about addiction, language, self-knowledge, and sobriety is manifested in interactions between counselors and clients. As an ethnography of the contemporary United States, the book demonstrates the complex cultural roots of the powerful clinical ideas that shape therapeutic transactions--and by extension administrative routines and institutional dynamics--at sites such as "Fresh Beginnings."

A Crucial and Careful Study

This is a patient, exhaustive and exacting ethnographic study. It forces one to think at once about social welfare policies, ideas of drug treatment, the limits and potentials of language and, maybe most of all, about the daily struggles of so many U.S. institutions charged with undoing addiction and dependency. The book's own careful act of undoing is in its thorough deconstruction of the assumed divide between therapist and client in such institutions. Instead of the addict-in-denial and the therapist determining "Truth," this book shows clients acutely aware of the roles they are expected to play and the language they are expected to use - to keep their kids, to stay in the program, to have a roof over their heads - while we see, in sometimes excruciating detail, the lengths therapists are forced to go to maintain their program's funding and bolster their own "authority." Everyone interested in poverty and policy, therapeutic regimens, political agency and semiotics and institutions should read and consider this ethnography.

Insightful and True

This was a compelling read. Compassionate as well, smartly written, indeed illuminating on this subject that begs such exploration. Carr's book not only turns an anthropological eye on drug treatment, it treats the overlap of language and drug addicts and politics with the respect required to be properly understood. This is thorough work, while at the same time most engaging. Highly recommended, intriguing and an absolutely necessary read for anyone looking to explore this most topical of subject matters. This book hits all the marks.

First Impressions

Ms. Carr has certainly done her research well, is very familiar with addiction treatment. How language is used in the subject of study she generalizes to other addiction treatment settings. She says at the heart of the treatment approach is a ritualized language the counselors use to indoctrinate the clients in treatment. If the clients "flip the script" they can sound like they're getting it. In other words, they can fake it, like one client, Nikki, does in the book. Yes, the author is absolutely right, that's talking the talk. Experienced addiction counselors know that clients who are truly in a process of change become willing to do the hard work recovery requires. She raises the interesting question of whether treatment produces real change or not.

Getting What you Want

Rachel Kramer Bussel gives us what we want in her new collection of quickies, Gotta Have It. When there isn't much time, you've got to be a real master--of seduction, of knowing how to give it and get it without the luxury of lavish foreplay. These masterful stories show that getting what you want isn't boring: go ahead, let the stranger in the library bend you over the desk and grope you under your skirt ("Special Collections" by Fiona Curtis); tie your straight office mate up with the phone cord and suck him off while making him watch you get hard ("Jarret" by Shane Allison). But it's not all getting and having--there is artful delay here as well, abundance tempered by longing. In "Genesis" by Shanna Germain - the erotic is in the waiting, as student must wait for teacher to say when. This doesn't mean he doesn't get what he wants, however--or that we don't--as Germain shows us the erotic in the waiting, the power of seduction. And in "Don't Struggle" by Valerie Alexander, we get the hot sex, the delivery, but the erotic is as much in what hasn't happened yet, the "little dependencies" that will begin off the page. The psychological dimension of binding another to you, or of being bound, is as much a turn on as a feverish kiss.

This book is hot. My only complaint is that getting what I want made me so greedy that I didn't want the book to end.

Fast and furious collection of 69 sizzling shorts

Erotica editor Rachel Kramer Bussel manages with each collection to come up with yet another fresh challenge to erotica writers - and readers. This time she has limited contributions to 1,200 words. "gotta have it" gives us the best 69 of what she calls "sudden sex." But sudden doesn't mean partial or limited - it means fast and furious and hot.

From an innocent junior librarian's introduction to bondage literature (Special Collection by Fiona Curtis) to a phone sex message that messes with a man's mind (Red Light by Angela Caperton), we get fully realized stories that excite the imagination and other organs. Perhaps my favorite is My Femme by Evan Mora about the narrator's boifriend whose vintage teal-blue Corvette, known as The Femme, becomes the setting for a wild session. One of the best written stories (Need-Leash by Mike Kimera) has a married woman catapulted into an affair with a cruel lover saying, "It is not the betrayal or humiliation or the crippling tug of my need-leash that brings the tears," but rather her fear that "one day you will let go of my leash."

This collection is different from many of the other dozens that Bussel has done for it is not aimed at one sexuality, one fetish or one sexual specialty. It is inclusive of the full menu of erotic surprises. It's a great volume to dip into for that quickie - either private or not. Best of all, Bussel has created an encyclopedic volume of these sizzling shorties that still fits conveniently in one hand.

C.J. Archer never disappoints.

This is the seventh book in one of my favorite series and it did not disappoint, but then C.j. Archer never does. I have so enjoyed following Charlie and Lincoln through all their adventures. It was great seeing old characters and getting to know new ones. This author just has a way of writing that makes you want to learn more about every character you meet. I was happy to see the relationship between Charlie and Lincoln get back to being happy. In past books I've wanted to smack Lincoln for messing up my HEA, but this one actually had me ready to go after Charlie. Glad we got to see her make up her mind on the will she/won't she put that ring back on! We get to see Lincoln open up more with her and the others, which was nice and even funny at times. I was pleased with the ending, No cliff hanger, but still a mystery left to be solved. I'm looking forward to book eight.

I very much enjoyed getting to know Lady Gillingham throughout the book

While Of Fate and Phantoms is the seventh installment of C.J. Archer's Ministry of Curiosities series, the story line is far from stale. Ms. Archer continues to introduce new plot lines without it becoming chaotic or confusing to the reader.

We continue to glimpse pieces of the previous characters, as they are developed. I very much enjoyed getting to know Lady Gillingham throughout the book, and delving more into Lincoln's family life. Charlie continues to mature, taking on more responsibilities and handling them with grace. She and Lincoln, while still slightly strained in their relationship, are growing and taking on the challenges as a team instead of two individuals. Lincoln recognized his mistake, and while Charlie has forgiven him, she is not ready to sign over her life in marriage. One benefit for first-person narration is the insight we get into Charlie's thought processes and decisions along the way. Alice also plays a slightly larger role, becoming a beloved companion to Charlie as she works through her emotions, although Lady Vickers does not appreciate how Seth seems to have an eye for Alice.

There are also several new characters. Without spoiling anything, shape-shifters are involved, the royal family, Charlie's old gang comes back into the light (although previously mentioned, they play a much larger role in Of Fate and Phantoms). Ms. Archer does a wonderful job including these new faces without detracting from the main plot.

Overall, I believe this is a very strong novel, and a great addition to the series. Everything flows together tightly, even the introduction of smaller stories and new characters.

I love this series. I love CJ Archer. This book I did not love. I didn't hate it. I eagerly awaited the release and devoured the book all in one sitting but only have like warm feelings about it. It didn't leave me with the desperate need of must knowing what happens next...

A lot of new characters are introduced. We met Lincolns parents and grandmother. Gilly's wife is in the book much more and we get to catch up with Charlie's old gang. Litchfield gets more staff well Seth, Alice and Lady Vickers seem to be at odds. Secretly I hated all the new characters and subplots as it left very little for Lincoln and Charlie. However we do see a new gentler side of Lincoln in this book but I didn't really like that character development either. There was very little action in this book. I felt most of the time was spent on character development which is not a bad thing. It is just not what I expected from this series. I kept waiting for a climatic scene and resolution to Charlie and Lincoln's relationship but it was more tepid than hot and considering their history that was disappointing. I hold out high hopes for the next installment of that will be the end for me...
